Klaipedos Nafta, the developer and the operator of the first LNG terminal in the Baltic Sea, is expanding the infrastructure in the port of Klaipeda and constructing LNG reloading station that will start its operations already next year. Because this infrastructure, the port of Klaipeda has ambitions to become a regional LNG distribution hub of gas distribution, not only by gas pipelines or bunkering vessels, but LNG truck/trailers as well.
LNG projects that are being developed by AB Klaipedos Nafta bring energy innovation to the region, and that opens new opportunities for constantly increasing number of the LNG market players. Since the beginning of the exploitation of the LNG Terminal in 2014, Klaipedos Nafta receives regular inquiries regarding the possibilities to reload LNG into road trucks/trailers or to bunker LNG fuelled ships.
The LNG reloading station project is successfully being developed and the company is preparing for the operations of the new infrastructure and the provision of new services in 2017, therefore the company starts to allocate the capacities.
The LNG reloading station is a small-scale LNG terminal under development in the oil terminal territory of Klaipėdos Nafta next to the jetty. The station will fill in a missing gap of infrastructure that will allow to reload LNG into trailers and bunker LNG-fueled ships. The geographic location of the station together with existing road infrastructure, will allow effectively distribution of LNG for remote gas users in Baltic States and Poland.
LNG will be brought by small-scale vessels to the reloading station from the FSRU Independence and from the third parties. The LNG reloading station will consist of 5 storage tanks of 1,000 cubic meters each, with the possibility to expand the station to 10 tanks in future.
